FROM RECOVERY TO RENEWAL 💫

I’m very honoured that my story is featured in the Winter 2025 edition of Spinal News with Spinal Injuries Ireland @spinalinjuriesireland.

In the article, “From Recovery to Renewal: How Art Helped Me Find My Voice Again,” I talk about life changing in an instant with Cauda Equina Syndrome, the months in the National Rehabilitation Hospital @nrh_ireland, and how a simple invitation to an art class by volunteers helped me find my way back to myself.

Art has become my relief, my release, and my way of celebrating the resilience of rural Ireland – from our fields and skies to the everyday moments at home on the farm in Granagh.

I’m forever grateful to Spinal Injuries Ireland for the community, support and encouragement they’ve given me and so many others on this journey.

Renowned artist Eamon Colman @eamon_colman delivered a fantastic 3-day workshop in Granagh Community Centre @granaghcommunitynews this weekend. It was a complete sell-out, and it’s no wonder — Eamon was incredibly generous with his knowledge, insight and encouragement from start to finish. 🎨✨

We had plenty of cups of tea, a lovely walk to the new Bridge Garden and many travelled from far and wide — Dublin, Kilkenny, Wexford, Kerry, Cork and Limerick.
We all left buzzing with ideas, colour and renewed confidence in our work. 💚

Huge thanks to Eamon, to everyone who made the weekend so special, and to Janice @rockbarnew for keeping us fed and found each day. 🙌

In 2016 I had a spinal cord injury that completely shifted how I see the world. Picking up the brushes again became a kind of release and relief, and my art practice really grew from there.

I work mostly in thick acrylics with palette knives and brushes, building up layers of colour and texture. My pieces are often semi-abstract, inspired by the Irish countryside & colour. 💫

A little series I’ve been working on recently. Each piece explores colour, emotion, and landscape in its own way, but together they tell one story.

This collection brings together four paintings that explore the intersection of memory, emotion, and landscape through expressive layers of colour.
• Hill of the Fairies evokes the mystical presence of place, a hill steeped in folklore and spirit.
• Unspoken Layers peels back surfaces to reveal what lies beneath — the unseen stories and emotions we carry.
• Inner Bloom reflects on growth and renewal, a celebration of colour and vitality rising from within.
• Fragments of Feelings captures fleeting moments of emotion, abstracted into vivid shapes and tones.

Together, they form a journey between land and inner world, inviting the viewer to pause and feel the depth hidden in both nature and self.

A little series I’ve been working on recently. Each piece explores colour, emotion, and landscape in its own way, but together they tell one story.

This collection brings together four paintings that explore the intersection of memory, emotion, and landscape through expressive layers of colour.
• Hill of the Fairies evokes the mystical presence of place, a hill steeped in folklore and spirit.
• Unspoken Layers peels back surfaces to reveal what lies beneath — the unseen stories and emotions we carry.
• Inner Bloom reflects on growth and renewal, a celebration of colour and vitality rising from within.
• Fragments of Feelings captures fleeting moments of emotion, abstracted into vivid shapes and tones.

Together, they form a journey between land and inner world, inviting the viewer to pause and feel the depth hidden in both nature and self.

Fabulous morning out Limerick Museum. I was delighted to meet the fabulous @eadaoin_glynn and saw her inspiring exhibition “Girl Unknown” . It’s well worth the visit if you’re in Limerick. It’s amazing how old photos can be brought to life via art and their story portrayed.
